The first trust team building
retreat was held on December 12th & 13th at Lake Bisteneau. The students participated in a physical
fitness test first. This consisted of a one mile run/walk, sit ups, push- ups, and sit and reach test. Next, the peer leaders
taught team building games to the new participants. The students all agreed that out of all the games they played the top
three would be giants, wizards, & dwarfs; magic shoes; & the moose is loose. By the end of day,
we were all exhausted. The next day we were fully rested and were ready to tackle the day’s activities.
The new participants were taught the techniques to trust falls consisting of wind in the willow & the exciting truck fall.
This tested new & old peers on their ability to trust others to catch them. After lunch, we did the trust walk with a
partner we did not know well. This tested students’ ability to guide their blind folded partner through a course without
talking. The leaders asked the students to explain what techniques their partner used and what worked and did not. Students
agreed that this weekend at Lake Bisteneau they learned to trust and support one another while having fun.
